Interested in joining the Steering Committee?

As part of our overall goal to grow and strengthen the organization, we want to ensure that the steering committee reflects a diverse array of perspectives on placemaking and public space issues in Canada.

We are particularly looking to strengthen our geographic representation and are seeking additional Committee members from the Prarie provinces (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta) and Territories (Nunavut, North West Territories, and Yukon).

Steering Committee Duties

The Committee is intended to be an interim governance body for Placemaking Canada that can help with the following tasks:

  1. Identifying and assisting with the establishment of a preferred permanent governance model for Placemaking Canada;

  2. Assisting with near-term activities, including online and in-person events/gatherings and our communities of practice;

  3. Supporting other near-term communications, partnership, or advocacy-related activities.

We anticipate the interim Steering Committee being in place for approximately 12-18 months (starting January 2025) – while a permanent organizational structure is established.

What to expect

  • Steering Committee meetings are conducted online (via Zoom) and held approximately once a month;

  • Steering Committee members are generally part of one or more working groups, which involves additional meeting and independent work to advance the various activities of Placemaking Canada (e.g., research into governance matters, programming matters, etc.);

  • Time commitment may vary, but we estimate 1-2 hours a week per Committee member;

  • Meetings and correspondence are held in English.
